Intensive English Program

Health services and medical insurance

Health care in the U.S. can be very expensive. Therefore, students must have adequate medical insurance. Intensive English Program campus fees include a prepaid health fee that allows students to use the services of the on-campus Student Health Center for common illnesses and routine health problems, often at no additional cost. MU also has a special, low-cost medical insurance policy for international students. All MU international students are required to purchase this policy at the time of registration. This insurance covers some of the services at the Student Health Center that are not covered by the prepaid health fee. It also provides some coverage for medical expenses such as hospitalization, surgery or complex medical treatment resulting from a serious illness or accident. Students may also buy insurance for any family members (spouse or child) who are with them in the United States. Students who have scholarships from their governments may contact International Student and Scholar Services to request that their scholarship’s insurance policy be accepted in place of MU’s policy.
